The sweetest, silliest family you’re about to fall in love with…How’s that for an introduction?! Well, its true. Mom is a radiant, loving, kind being. Dad is still smitten with mom. And the kiddos are just the best. Silly Lily & Sweet Jack. Try not to fall in love with them. Just try.
Oh, and also, that gorgeous golden hour light in Grandma’s back yard!
They hadn’t taken family pictures since Lily was a newborn…you can see they were certainly due! They chose to celebrate their family with a canvas for the mantle, a gallery wall for above the couch and an album. During their portrait session in Westminster, we captured their connection in a way that was meaningful, authentic and SO much fun. This is them. xo.

I can’t believe its taken me this long to share this adorable family’s portrait session! Hopefully I can get caught up on my session features over the next couple of weeks. Megan & Tom brought their 3 loves (can’t forget Jake the furbaby!) to my favorite portrait location in Sterling for outdoor family portraits. One of the reasons I love this location for family portrait sessions is that there’s a large field for the kids to explore and run in.
Every kiddo is different, so an important part of family sessions is making them comfortable, and finding that special something that will bring out their best. I love the portraits we created for this little family of four.
Mom and Dad need pictures too! A united front in handling two kids under 4 🙂
Cutie little Gap baby (love those cheeks!).
Megan & Tom selected a 30×40 canvas of their favorite family portrait as the showpiece for their living room, as well as a framed wall collection of 8 images that will hang in their foyer and tell the story of their beautiful, loving family.
These two sisters are adorable. Put them in fuzzy hooded jackets (with ears!) and they are officially the cutest little things I’ve ever seen. And I’m not saying that just because they’re my nieces, and because everyone thinks Emma (the little love in the black kitty jacket) is mine. They are SO cute.
Today’s family portrait session feature is a special one. These two are cousins and the best of friends, even though H lives halfway across the world. He came to visit K for a bit this summer, and her parents planned a session to celebrate their bond. Here are some of my favorites from this cousins portrait session.
Extended family portraits – ones with adult siblings, their children and grandparents – are becoming some of my favorite portraits sessions to photograph. It’s not often families come together to have professional pictures taken, and its something I hear people saying they regret not doing. A lot of planning goes into these sessions, from location and outfit selection, to the shot list, all things we discuss before the session. For this family, we planned their session for an evening at Minuteman Park in Concord, a beautiful location for outdoor portraits.
One of the first pictures we captured was this beautiful multi-generation, extended family portrait (which will soon be hanging above proud grandmom’s mantle as a beautiful 20×30 canvas).
As part of our shot list, we also created individual portraits of each family. I love how well everyone’s outfits worked at this session. We discussed outfits and the location ahead of time to get the look that complemented their family best. They selected a couple of core colors, in this case, blues and creams, and this family also included a little pop of red, which I love. A nice contrast to the green field and setting sun.
Some of the fun in-between moments!
Everyone loves this picture of Uncle Mikey, so it had to make the feature! Such a great, relaxed portrait.
A big thank you to Christina for bringing her family to see me. I had a wonderful time getting to know your family, and it was especially wonderful seeing your mom’s reaction to all of your family portraits. It was a complete pleasure.
My very good friend and most loyal client Kara brought her kiddos out to see me for his 6 month baby portraits recently. We started at my studio in Westminster to create the very last portrait of J laying on his dad’s records (inspired by his newborn session – look how much he’s grown!) and finished the session at one of my favorite outdoor portait locations…my backyard. 🙂
Big sister joined in for a few, entertaining J with bubbles and giving him a little love too!
Picture planning tip: Six month baby portraits are generally best when baby is sitting up pretty sturdy, which sometimes means we have the session when baby is 7-8 months.
