James & Sam’s Unique Zelda Wedding

Sam and James are unique spirits who both happen to have a love for all things Zelda…it was this interest that initially bonded them, and so it makes sense that it would ultimately become the theme of their wedding, in what was one of the – if not THE – most unique weddings we’ve photographed to date. With a custom dress and well-thought details throughout the day all based on the game, they truly made their wedding day theirs and I love that.

I owe the connection to this couple to the bride’s beautiful mother, Kathi. We worked together years ago at an ad agency (which also connected me to Lianne and her beautiful daughter Jackie – see Jackie & Steve’s Cape Cod wedding here!)…her daughter’s wedding was such an incredible way to reconnect. Kathi, you are so blessed, and it was so much fun to be part of the Hines family for the day!

This radiant “I’m about to be married to the man I love” smile didn’t leave her face all day…

They planned their first look here, a private little spot with access only through a winding path in the woods. Her dad happily escorted Sam to her first look, where James was waiting patiently. We were a liiiittle late.

He kissed her in a gentleman sort of way and looked her over to make sure her ensemble was just right before he relaxed and pulled her close. Today was their wedding day!

Favorite moment of the day. Pure bliss.

Ok, and when you have a dress that flairs, you’ve gotta flair it!

“Remember, life is short. Don’t stress on the little things. And always look for rupees in the grass.” – The Legend of Zelda

Ok, I’m just going to say it…I’m pretty proud of our lighting at the ceremony. It was a tough situation, with no natural light and mirrors all around the room. Setup courtesy of Ben Ewing, lighting & husband extraordinaire.

Toasts by best man and MOH kicked off festivities at their reception. The beautiful backdrop was a custom Zelda quilt handmade by the groom’s grandmother.

Here are some of my favorite moments from their party – silly faces, a little feather throwing, lots of dress twirling and so so much laughing & dancing. Watching this group made me envious to be on the other side of the camera. Such a fun and loving family!

Congratulations Sam & James, and thank you Kathi for entrusting Ben and I with the important job of capturing their memories and love. This is certainly a day we will never forget. xoxo.
